The Wizard Nebula

The Wizard Nebula, officially known as NGC 7380, is an open cluster of stars with an associated emission nebula located in the constellation Cepheus. This nebula is approximately 7,000 light-years from Earth and spans about 100 light-years in diameter. Its name derives from its somewhat wizard-like appearance, with dark dust lanes that resemble a wizard's face or a mystical figure. The nebula is a stellar nursery, where new stars are being born, highlighted by the bright, hot young stars that illuminate the surrounding hydrogen gas, giving it a glowing, red hue. This region is particularly noted for its intricate structure, making it a favorite for astrophotographers.
